This conference will provide an opportunity for knowledge keepers, community leaders, museum workers, artists, activists and scholars to gather in Winnipeg, on Treaty 1 Territory and the homeland of the Red River Métis, to explore the transformative role museums can play in fostering empathy, decolonization, rematriation/repatriation, promoting human rights and cultivating a culture of peace.

Museum Tour — Wednesday, August 12

Kick off the conference in a good way with a complimentary 90-minute Explore the Galleries guided tour of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The tour will be followed by an Indigenous cultural experience and a shared meal to welcome attendees. Registration is required.

Dinner and Public Program: An Evening with Autumn Peltier — Thursday, August 13

Join us for a free evening public program in Bonnie & John Buhler Hall featuring Autumn Peltier, internationally recognized Indigenous water rights advocate. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7:00 p.m. A buffet dinner will be held in the Manitoba Teachers’ Society Classrooms from 5:00–6:30 p.m. prior to the program. Companion tickets for the buffet are available for CAN $75 (limit: 1 per registrant).

Final Evening Reception and Dinner at Gateway to the Arctic — Friday, August 14

Conclude the conference with a memorable offsite reception and dinner at Gateway to the Arctic at Assiniboine Park. Gather with fellow attendees and speakers for a celebratory evening to close out three inspiring days together. Tickets are CAN $75 (limit: 2 per registrant). Bus pick-up will be available from the Fort Garry Hotel and the CMHR.

Weekend Excursion — From Friday, August 14 to Sunday, August 16

After the conference concludes, attendees and any companions they may be travelling with are invited to enjoy a two-day curated excursion celebrating Indigenous land, stories, art and justice.

Settle in for the night at the historic Fort Garry Hotel before a full weekend of exploration begins. On Saturday, board a motor coach and head to the National Indian Residential School Museum of Canada, located in the former Portage La Prairie Indian residential school. The museum preserves the history and experiences of survivors to foster healing and understanding. From there, enjoy lunch at Bistro on Notre Dame before crossing into the heart of historic St. Boniface for a Moccasin Walk with the St. Boniface Museum. The afternoon continues with a guided tour of the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG), followed by free time before dinner. The evening wraps up at Feast Bistro, an Indigenous-owned restaurant where modern dishes are rooted in First Nations cuisine.

The next day, you will be transported to the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden and The Leaf at Assiniboine Park, where you will also enjoy a delicious lunch surrounded by nature. The afternoon brings a guided Indigenous-focused highlight tour of the Manitoba Museum, followed by a hands-on beading workshop with Borealis Beading at the Treaty Centre at The Forks. Complete your trip by gathering with fellow attendees for a memorable dinner at Promenade Brasserie, and end your time in Winnipeg in a good way.

The cost of the weekend excursion is not included in conference registration fees and must be booked and paid for separately. Tickets are CAN $1,570 per person (taxes included) and include two nights accommodation at Fort Garry Hotel, all meals, admission prices and transportation (limit: 2 per registrant).
